DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TERMINAL, CENTRAL, JUNCTION, CANTONMENT STATIONS IN INDIAN RAILWAYS

During in your train journey have you observed different stations named like Mumbai Central , Chennai Central , Vijaywada Junction, Salem Junction, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, Lokmanya Tilak Terminal...
Have you think or questioned in your mind about difference between those stations? So let's start here..
What is the difference between Terminal, junction, central, cantonment stations in Indian Railways..

TERMINAL :-
When a track or route ends a station is known as Terminus or Terminal. The meaning of the Terminal itself is the termination. The train can only enter or leave the station only in one direction.

Examples:- Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus and Lokmanya Tilak Terminal are biggest Terminal stations in India

CENTRAL :-
The central station means that it is busiest station and most important station in the city. It is very large and has multiple stations and deals with large number of arrivals and departures.

Example :- Mumbai Central , Chennai Central

JUNCTION :-

If at least three routes are passing from one station then a station is called Junction. It means the train that comes into the station must have two or more different outgoing lines.

Example :- Mathura Junction, Vijaywada Junction, Salem Junction

CANTONMENT:-

CANTONMENT stations are the stations which are in cantt area in the city. A cantt is an area of the city where the army or the armed forces are the stationed. Cantt stations are special because of their proximity to the army bases in various cities and thus hold facilities that can be utilized by armed forces for their needs like logistics, unit transfer, troop movements etc..

SO THESE ARE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TERMINAL, CENTRAL, JUNCTION AND CANTONMENT STATIONS IN INDIAN RAILWAYS..
